We welcome back pianist Brenda Bruce to St. Francis after performing a solo piano recital for us in July of 2017. Ms Bruce brings to life the beauty and mystery of keyboard literature through her performances. She has performed throughout the Southeastern United States, New England, and Europe. She has performed with the NC Symphony Orchestra and is a frequent recitalist at the NC Museum of Art, as well as other prestigious venues throughout the state. She holds a Master’s of Piano Performance degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston and a Bachelor’s of Music Education in music education from Central Methodist College in her home state of Missouri. After graduating from New England, she lived in the Boston area for twelve years before moving to Raleigh, where she now resides.

Brenda Bruce brings tenor. Irwin Reese to perform for us. Mr. Reese is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, where he studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He obtained a Bachelor of Music from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and received his Master’s in Vocal Performance for the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Mr. Reese was a member of the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera for 23 years. He performed roles in Wozzeck, La Traviata, Der Rosenkavalier, La Boheme, Madame Butterfly, Death in Venice, La Forza del Destino, and The Barber of Seville at the Metropolitan Opera. He has performed with Calgary Opera for the Olympic Games and has performed in national tours of Porgy and Bess. In addition to being a recitalist, Mr. Reese works as a commercial voice-over singer and has been featured in television commercials for the New York State Lottery and Traveler’s Insurance. He can also be heard singing on two episodes of Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer. Other television credits include performing William Grant Still’s A Bayou Legend for PBS which aired nationally.

Please help is spread the word about this special concert here at St. Frances by the Sea this Friday, July 12, at 7 p.m. An Art Gallery Exhibit Opening begins at 6 p.m. prior to the concert. This concert is open and free to the public, though donations will be accepted. Extra flyers advertising this concert are available downstairs following today’s service. Please distribute them to your friends and family. A reception will follow the performance.
